HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 cc183-4W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to require local authorities to publicise the pollution figures for the beaches in their areas.

Mr. Waldegrave

My hon. Friend will recall that the Royal Commission on environmental pollution's [0th report refers to bathing water and, in particular, to the suggestion from the Association of County Councils that the identification and monitoring of bathing waters should be the responsibility of district councils.

The Government expect soon to reply to the report, and it would not be correct for me to anticipate this reply.
