§ Mr. Batisteasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) in respect of how many United States controlled companies applications to participate in the Alvey programme are pending; and to which projects these applications relate;
(2) how many United States controlled companies now participate in the Alvey programme and in respect of which projects.
§ Mr. PattieTwo US controlled companies are included in the various consortia who have applied for support from the Alvey programme, and the relevant applications are in the areas of man machine interface and intelligent knowledge based systems. No formal offers have yet been made in respect of these applications but this now depends only on the finalisation of the contractual details, including the collaboration agreement between the partners.
§ Mr. Batisteasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government that the ownership of patents and other intellectual property rights arising from the Alvey programme should reside in the participants.
§ Mr. PattieThe intellectual property rights arising from an Alvey project will be vested in the non-academic participants as set out in their collaboration agreement which will also contain the terms for recompensing the academic participants for their contribution.
§ Mr. Batisteasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the participation of United States controlled companies in the Alvey programme.
§ Mr. PattieCompanies eligible for support under the Alvey programme are those established in the United Kingdom, with relevant expertise to contribute, who are ready to collaborate and to exploit the technology arising from the programme to the benefit of the United Kingdom.
