asked the Secretary of State for Defence if, in the selection of a new trainer for the Royal Air Force, he will beware of claims for unproven aircraft; and if he will make a statement.

We have received four tenders for a new RAF trainer and they will all be the subject of a very thorough technical and financial evaluation before a final selection is made.

Sir Patrick Wall

asked the the Secretary of State for Defence when he will be making a decision for the replacement for the Jet Provost for Royal Air Force training.

Mr. Butler

It is hoped to announce a decision around the turn of the year.
