§ Mr. Leightonasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many men and women, listed separately, are on special employment or training measures in (a) the London borough of Newham and (b) the Constituency of Newham, North-East.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonSome 3,200 people are benefiting from the employment and training measures in the London borough of Newham, although because of the various bases on which local information is collated, an unknown proportion will be in areas outside the borough and the hon. Member's constituency. I am unable to provide a separate number for men and women on these measures in the borough without incurring disproportionate cost.
§ Mr. Leightonasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people left school last September in the London borough of Newham; how many ment on to further education; how many got jobs; how many went on to youth training schemes; and how many are unemployed.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonAvailable statistics from the Newham careers service shows that 2,312 16-year-olds left school in the London borough of Newham in the academic year ending 31 August 1984. The other information requested will not be available until a survey by the careers service to establish the destinations of these school leavers is completed in December.
