HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 c91W
Mr. Gould

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the extra cost per unit of producing electricity by burning oil in the power stations compared with the cost in those stations which are using coal.

Mr. Goodlad

The additional cost of generating electricity from oil-fired power stations as a result of the coal dispute varies according to the overall level of demand on the system at a given time and other factors. The extra costs cannot be fully assessed until the dispute is over.
