HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 cc108-9W
47. Sir Anthony Meyer

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what developments there have been in the past three months over the provision of a fixed cross-Channel link.

Mr. David Mitchell

I understand that various groups are still considering the preparation of detailed financing proposals for a Channel fixed link, following the reply given by my right Hon. Friend on 22 May to my hon. Friends the Members for Maidstone (Sir J. Wells), and Folkestone and Hythe (Mr. Howard) at column 380–381. My right hon. Friend will be meeting the French Minister of Transport this week to consider what the next steps for the two Governments should be, if proposals meeting the conditions set out in our earlier statement are forthcoming.
