HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 cc113-4W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in the interest of protecting British Airways against competition on its routes to Australia, it is his intention to seek revision of air treaties with Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Spicer

I have no plans at present to seek any changes in our arrangements with Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. We have, however, been unable satisfactorily to resolve a recent dispute with the Philippines and have therefore given 12 months' notice to terminate the air services agreement. During this period I shall be prepared to consider any proposals which will lead to the maintenance of services between Manila and Hong Kong and between Manila and London on a basis which is acceptable to both parties.
