§ Mr. NewtonThe Department's central offices in Newcastle employ 10,500 staff and require over 1.3 million sq. ft. of carpeting. In the financial year 1984–85 to date some 92,000 sq. ft. of carpeting have been laid to replace worn and damaged carpeting, at a cost of £80,880.
