HC Deb 09 November 1984 vol 67 c21W
Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will ensure, in his proposed revised memorandum of guidance to the police on the administration of the Firearms Act 1968, that all holders of firearms certificates for the use of rifles for vermin control will not be in breach of condition if they test fire their rifles where their use for vermin control is permitted.

Mr. Giles Shaw

We are still considering the advice to be provided on this subject in the revised memorandum.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, following its incorporation into the 1973 Green Paper "The Control of Firearms in Great Britain" (Cmnd. 5297) and the recent report of the working party on the administration of the Firearms Act 1968, dated April 1984, he will make available in the Library Sir John McKay's working party report of 1972 into the administration of the Firearms Act 1968.

Mr. Giles Shaw

No. The report on Sir John McKay's working party was an internal one.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the administration of the Firearms Act 1968 by chiefs of police; and if he proposes to initiate legislative reforms with a view to making cost savings and standardising procedures.

Mr. Giles Shaw

We have no plans to introduce such legislation.
