Data corresponding to SITC/R2 Division 65, Groups 266 and 267, Sub-group 268.7 (part) and Item 847.11 in the United Kingdom Overseas Trade Statistics, and corresponding headings under SITC (Revision 1).

Note:

Because of the change in classification between SITC (RI) and SITC(R2), figures prior to 1978 are not wholly consistent with those for 1978 onward. The differences are, however, thought to be very small.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what has been the total number and value of items of clothing made from wool imported into the United Kingdom from Turkey in each of the years since 1974.

Mr. Fletcher

The information which can be provided within acceptable limits of cost is as follows:

Notes:

  1. (a) details by number exclude Item 845.91 (miscellaneous knitted or crocheted outer garments), for which information is available only by value and weight;
  2. (b) figures exclude garments where the statistics of overseas trade do not distinguish any made of wool or fine animal hair from those made of other textile materials (e.g. blouses, shirts and undergarments, Items 843.59, 844.19 and 844.29 and 39). They also exclude items such as shawls, scarves, ties, cravats, gloves, stockings, foundation wear, and elastic or rubberised articles;
  3. (c) information on a comparable basis for years prior to 1978 is not readily available at this level of detail owing to differences between the first and second revisions of the standard international 596 trade classification;
  4. (d) attention is drawn to the heterogeneous nature of the information comprised in the data of numbers of items imported.
