HC Deb 25 May 1984 vol 60 c568W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many dwellings in England lack one or more of the basic amenities; and what percentage this is of the total housing stock in England.

Sir George Young

The English house condition survey of 1981 showed that about 910,000 dwellings, or 5 per cent. of the total stock, lacked one or more of the basic amenities which are inside WC, fixed bath in a bathroom, wash basin, sink, and hot and cold water at those three points.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what percentages and actual numbers of houses in England were built (a) before 1955, (b) before 1945 and (c) before 1919.

Sir George Young
