Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many officials working in the 54 area offices of the Manpower Services Commission are employed (a) full-time and (b) part-time on health and safety.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Each of the Manpower Services Commission's 55 area officeshas a full-time technical officer whose duties include health and safety matters.

Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will now instruct the Manpower Services Commission to employ full-time health and safety personnel in the 54 Manpower Services Commission area offices; and if he will make a statement.

No. I am content that the Manpower Services Commission's present arrangements are satisfactory.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the approximate number of youth training scheme trainees overseen by each regional safety specialist employed part-time by the Manpoweer Services Commission.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The regional safety consultants contracted by the Manpower Services Commission assist in the appraisal and monitoring of programmes under the youth training scheme by providing specialist guidance on health and safety matters to commission staff. They do not oversee trainees on the scheme.
