HC Deb 25 May 1984 vol 60 c601W
Mrs. Peacock

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, in view of the concern expressed by the Health and Safety Commission's construction industry advisory committee on the number of head injuries experienced in the industry, if he will consider introducing legislation to make the wearing of protective hats compulsory.

Mr. Gummer

I await the advice of the Health and Safety Commission. In July 1983 the commission's construction industry advisory committee recommended that there was a need for regulations under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 to require the wearing of safety helmets on construction sites. The Health and Safety Executive is now considering the matter further and will make recommendations to the commission.
