HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 c555W
Mr. Gale

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many tonnes of potatoes destined for use by British troops in the Falkland Islands have been imported from the Netherlands or Belgium; and what proportion this is of the total tonnage imported to date.

Mr. Stanley

Since the recovery of the Falkland Islands approximately 1,900 tonnes of fresh potatoes have been shipped. Records of the country of origin of all potatoes purchased are not normally maintained but indications are that approximately 600 tonnes of Netherlands origin were provided in the early months of 1983.
