HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 c459W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what progress has been made in reducing noise on the M25 in the area of High Beach, Upshire and Waltham Abbey and on the M11 in the area of Theydon Garnon; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ridley

In the design of this section of M25 careful consideration was given to the provision of measures to reduce the effect of traffic noise. Some 6 km. of acoustic fencing and earth banks have been provided and all eligible properties have been offered double-glazing. As my hon. Friend the Minister of State told my hon. Friend on 26 April, at column 624, numerous representations have been received about noise levels on this section of M25 and the M11 at Theydon Garnon, and consulting engineers have surveyed current noise levels.

I shall write to my hon. Friend as soon as I have received and considered the engineers' report and evaluation.
