HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 c528W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the progress made by the English Industrial Estates Corporation in Liverpool.

Mr. Trippier

In the past three years EIEC has completed 144 factory units in Liverpool comprising 24,086 sq m of floor space. In the same period it has let 131 units comprising 27,300 sq m of floor space. Over 1,100 workers are employed in EIEC premises in Liverpool. Fifty-four units comprising 17,473 sq m are immediately available to house new projects, in a size range from 50 to 2,495 sq m. In the current year Liverpool and Birkenhead alone will receive over 25 per cent. of EIEC's planned expenditure with £5.7 million going to Liverpool.

Progress is continuing on cleaning the Tate and Lyle refinery site, which will be available for redevelopment in about 12 months' time. The conversion of the Exchange hotel to offices is well under way and should be completed in spring 1986.
