*Agricultural commodities comprise food, feed and alcoholic drink. EC is here defined as being those countries at present in membership of the European Community.

Sir John Osborn

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the annual increase in real terms of agricultural exports from the United Kingdom to other member states of the European Community since 1973.

Mr. MacGregor

In real terms, that is to say deflated by the United Kingdom implied GDP deflator (1980 = 100), the value of agricultural exports to the countries at present in the European Community has risen from £936 million in 1973 to £1,464 million in 1983. This is an overall increase of 56.4 per cent., equivalent to an average percentage increase of 4.6 per cent. per annum.
