HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 c381W
Mr. John Page

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he is examining the new traffic system instituted by the Greater London council at the junction of Talgarth road and North end road in west London and its effects on vehicles travelling into central London.

Mr. Ridley

My hon. Friend the Minister of State said in a written reply to the hon. Member for Cannock and Burntwood (Mr. Howarth) on 17 May that this alteration, which reduces the number of lanes available for traffic travelling towards central London from three to two, was introduced by the GLC, despite contrary advice from GLC officers and the police who warned of an increased risk of accidents.

The Minister of State has written to the GLC asking them to call off this experiment before tragic consequences are added to the congestion and environmental damage that have already been caused.
