HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 c432W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the reasons for the continued delay in determining which shipyards will receive the two orders for the type 22 frigates.

Mr. Lee

The delay in placing the order has been occasioned by the need for prolonged discussions which are continuing. I will make an announcement as soon as possible.

Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how far regional employment considerations come into his determination of which shipyards will receive the two orders for the type 22 frigates.

Mr. Lee

The primary considerations in deciding where to place an order are costs and delivery timescales. However, account is also taken of other relevant factors including regional employment considerations.
