HL Deb 22 May 1984 vol 452 c217WA
Baroness Hornsby-Smith

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What liason there is between the Immigration Department of the Home Office, and the Department of Employment to prevent foreign nationals entering as tourists and taking employment without a work permit.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Elton)

There is close contact between the departments in considering applications for permission to work, and in cases where it comes to the notice of either department that a tourist is seeking or taking a job. However, the primary means of prevention is the control, at the ports, of persons seeking admission as visitors.
