HL Deb 22 May 1984 vol 452 c218WA
Lord Flowers

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will take the opportunity of the forthcoming meeting of Heads of State in London to discuss collaborative projects in space research, and particularly collaboration between the United Kingdom and other nations in remote sensing, as recommended by the Select Committee on Science and Technology.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Lord Cockfield)

The meeting of Heads of State will be considering the recommendations of the Working Group on Technology, Growth and Employment (the Versailles Working Group), in which the United Kingdom has been playing an active role. Among other topics, the group has provided a forum for developing international collaboration in space science and remote sensing. The discussions about remote sensing have focused on the need to maintain continuity of meteorological statellite data, the coordination of remote sensing programmes, cooperation in space-borne instrumentation, and the provision of training, particularly in the developing world.
