HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 c437W
Mr. Leighton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has as to how many employers in the printing industry are not members of the federation which runs the non-statutory training organisations; what proportion of the work force they employ; and what evidence he has as to whether their employees are losing training opportunities.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The British Printing Industries Federation estimates that about 2,500 employers, employing about 40 per cent. of the work force in general printing, carton printing and machine stationery, are not members of the federation. We have not received any representations that employers who are not members of the federation are failing to provide adequate training opportunities for their employees. The federation makes its services available to non-member companies and is considering how to extend its activities in the industry.
