HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 c432W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total amount of expenditure on the development of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation air base at Stornoway; and what proportion is derived from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation funding.

Mr. Stanley

The estimated cost of works at RAF Stornoway remains within the forecast of £40 million given to the hon. Member by my hon. Friend the then Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Royal Air Force on 19 January 1981, in column 51. I cannot at this stage accurately predict the precise amount to be paid by NATO, but we expect that most of the cost will be borne by NATO infrastructure funds.
