HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 cc422-3W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number and percentage of his Department's doctors engaged in assessment of entitlement to benefits who are female; and if he will break down the figures in relation to doctors employed full-time, part-time and on a sessional basis.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

On 1 May 1984 there were 18 female medical officers—all full-time—engaged in our Department in assessment of entitlement to benefits. This was 14.75 per cent. of all medical staff engaged on this work. The number of medical practitioners engaged on a sessional basis to undertake this work varies daily and information about their sex is not available centrally.
