HC Deb 21 May 1984 vol 60 c352W
Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will assess the effects on British relations with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics of United States of America policy towards that country.

Mr. Rifkind

The effects are diverse and difficult to assess precisely. We consult very closely with the United States, particularly on questions concerning the defence of the NATO area. The aim of both Governments is that our policies towards the Soviet Union should be mutually reinforcing.
