HC Deb 21 May 1984 vol 60 c321W
Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if Her Majesty's Government will refuse to admit to the United Kingdom persons, whether diplomats or not, who are known to have worked for the South African service of state security.

Mr. Brittan

I would not hesitate to use my powers to exclude a person from the United Kingdom if I had reason to believe he was likely to engage in improper or otherwise unacceptable activities here. Members of diplomatic missions are exempt from immigration control, but the Government have made clear on many occasions that appropriate action will be taken in the case of improper activities by members of such missions.
