HC Deb 21 May 1984 vol 60 cc324-5W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what proposals he has received from British Shipbuilders about the future of its marine engineering division;

(2) if he will make a statement regarding the premises on which British Shipbuilders' short-term and medium-term financial forecasts are based;

(3) if he will make available to right hon. and hon. Members copies of British Shipbuilders' short-term and medium-term financial forecasts and manpower estimates;

(4) if he will make available to right hon. and hon. Members the British Shipbuilders' corporate plan;

(5) when he expects to receive British Shipbuilders' corporate plan;

(6) what information he has concerning British Shipbuilders' marketing strategy.

Mr. Norman Lamont

My right hon. Friend expects to receive a full corporate plan from British Shipbuilders in the course of next month. When that has been evaluated by the Government and the essential financial and other decisions taken, my right hon. Friend proposes to make the plan, necessarily shorn of any commercially confidential information, available to the House.

Subject to that consideration, this should provide the hon. Member with the information he seeks, including financial and other forecasts and details of the premises underlying them, the strategies the corporation proposes to follow, and its plans for the future of the constituent parts of the organisation.
