asked the Secretary of State for Defence why faculty members of the department of geology of the university of Oxford have been refused permission to continue their survey in relation to volcanic hazards mapping on Ascension Island.

The department of geology at the university of Oxford has not been refused permission to carry out a survey in relation to volcanic hazard mapping.

Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received from members of the department of geology at the university of Oxford and other geologists about the dangers of volcanic activity on Ascension Island in view of similar activity in Iceland, Jan Mayan Island, the Azores, Tristan da Cunha, Buzet and other areas of the mid-Atlantic ridge.
