HC Deb 21 May 1984 vol 60 cc368-9W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the current grant received by each of the Highlands and Islands airports from his Department; what action he now proposes following the failure of the Civil Aviation Authority to interest any private concerns in running any of the airports; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ancram

The deficits incurred at each of the aerodromes in the 1983–84 financial year were as set out in the table following:

£'000
Benbecula 404
Inverness 453
Islay 170
Kirkwall 455
Stornoway 554
Tiree 82
Wick 442
Sumburgh (non oil-related traffic) 385

After calculation of interest payments on the deficits incurred and having made adjustments to reflect actual outturn for 1982–83 the Civil Aviation Authority received subsidy of £3.259 million for the financial year 1983–84. On the question of the privatisation of these aerodromes I refer the hon. Member to the reply he received on 8 May from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport at column 319.
