Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what advice is given to staff as to the response they should make when telephone callers inquire the name of he officer handling (a) the telephone call and (b) that particular applicant's case.

Staff in the inquiry units are encouraged to give:

  1. (a) their name if requested;
  2. (b) if the call has to be transferred to the supervisor, the supervisor's name; and
  3. (c) the name of the officer responsible for the case if the query is not resolved on the telephone.
