HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 c240W
Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the conduit constructed by Belfast water commissioners about 1870 through the town land of Dunanney, Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim became disused; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chris Patten

Following structural damage part of the conduit became disused in 1964; the remainder of the conduit between McDowell's Well and Whiteabbey Reservoir effectively became disused in 1973 when a new 700 cm water main was laid (although part of that main is laid within the old conduit).
