§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will provide a list of all the schools closed in Essex between 1979 and 1983 because of the high cost of long-term maintenance, giving in each case both the original financial estimates of such maintenance and the actual savings resulting from closure.
§ Mr. DunnMy hon. Friend the Member for City of London and Westminster South (Mr. Brooke) provided a list, in reply to the hon. Member's question of 25 April, at columns 472–473, of the information readily available to the Department about proposals to close Essex schools which have been approved since sections 12–16 of the Education Act 1980 came into force. The more detailed information sought here is a matter for the Local Education Authority and is not available centrally.
