HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 cc243-4W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many county councils in Wales have withdrawn from joint funding schemes with area health authorities; what reasons have been given in each instance; and what steps he has taken to meet this position.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

The Welsh Office has received notification of withdrawal by a county council from approved jointly financed schemes on two occasions, both in 1980. Withdrawal was attributed to financial constraints at that time, but in both cases the schemes were submitted and received approval in subsequent years. It is for local authorities to decide on their expenditure priorities in the light of their detailed knowledge of local needs.
