HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 c256W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why the cost of processing food for patients in psychiatric-mental illness and psychiatric-mental handicap hospitals is less than for other hospitals; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Processing costs depend on a variety of factors including hospital size and the need for most non-psychiatric hospitals to have higher catering staffing levels to deal with special dietary requirements and additional services needed for non-ambulant patients.
