HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 cc235-6W
57. Mr. Willie W. Hamilton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what further initiatives he intends to take to reduce the scale of drug smuggling into the United Kingdom.

Mr. Hayhoe

As I explained in the answer I gave on 2 May to my hon. Friend the Member for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Central (Mr. Merchant) at column154. Her Majesty's Customs and Excise are continuing with considerable and increasing success to improve their effectiveness in preventing the smuggling of drugs into the United Kingdom.

Mr. Brooke
