HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 c258W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he intends to propose a normal retirement age for general practitioners and other medical practitioners.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

There is already a normal retirement age of 65 for doctors employed by health authorities. The question of a retirement age for general medical practitioners was raised by the Acheson report on primary care in London and is considered by the Government from time to time. We have not decided to make any proposals at the moment.
