HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 c209W
24. Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the clear-up rate for crime in 1983; and what was the figure for 1979.

Mr. Mellor

Statistics of notifiable offences recorded by the police and cleared up were published in Home Office statistical bulletin 5/84 on 15 March. The clear-up rate for notifiable offences recorded by the police in England and Wales in 1983 was 37 per cent. The corresponding figure for 1979 was 41 per cent. Figures for 1983 and 1979 are not entirely comparable because of changes in the counting rules made in 1980.

28. Mr. Hayward

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he will next meet the Association of Chief Police Officers to discuss crime levels.

Mr. Hurd

My right hon. and learned Friend meets representatives of the association regularly to discuss a wide range of policing issues, including crime rates. There is no meeting arranged at present.
