Mr. Redmond

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local offices of his Department in Doncaster as a result of the advertising campaign in March; and how many payments had been made prior to the advertising campaign as a result of the check of current files and the publicity for dormant cases, respectively.

Dr. Boyson

One payment in respect of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefits on grounds of voluntary unemployment has been made by the Department's Doncaster, East local office to a former claimant following the advertising campaign in March. No payments of this kind were made by Doncaster, West office. The number of unsuccessful inquiries made is not recorded. Three and 30 payments respectively resulted from the check of current files by Doncaster, East and Doncaster, West offices. One payment was made to a former claimant by Doncaster, West office following earlier publicity.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local offices in the St. Helens, North parliamentary constituency as a result of the advertising campaign in March; how many payments have resulted from those claims; and how many such payments had been made prior to the advertising campaign as a result of the check of current files and the publicity for dormant cases, respectively.

No payments of this kind were made by Warrington office. The number of unsuccessful inquiries made is not recorded. Seven and 63 payments respectively resulted from the check of current files by St. Helens and Warrington local offices. One payment was made by each of these offices to former claimants following the earlier publicity.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local offices of his Department in Haringey, London as a result of the advertising campaign in March; how many payments have resulted from these claims; and how many such payments had been made prior to the advertising campaign as a result of the check of current files and the publicity for dormant cases, respectively.

Fifty-six, 82, six and nil payments respectively resulted from the check of current files by Tottenham, Finsbury Park, Highgate and Wood Green local offices. None was made to former claimants following the earlier publicity.

Thirty-seven payments resulted from the check of current files. None were made to former claimants following earlier publicity.
