HC Deb 16 May 1984 vol 60 c160W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons took early retirement in Mersey regional health authority as a result of the 1982 restructuring; what was the total cost of compensation; and how many of those who retired are now back at work with the regional health authority.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

By 31 March 1984, 65 officers had been prematurely retired in Mersey region as a result of the 1982 restructuring. The actual cost of compensation in respect of individual regions is not known, but the amount attributed to the region in respect of premature retirements occurring in 1983–84 and previous years on the basis of the average national costs was £174,000.

None of these officers is currently re-employed in the NHS.
