HC Deb 16 May 1984 vol 60 c194W
26. Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a statement on the operation of the Manpower Services Commission programmes in Scotland.

Mr. Allan Stewart

During the year to 31 March 1984 three major, new programmes have been launched by the Manpower Services Commission with impressive results in Scotland. More than 62,000 people have benefited directly under the youth training scheme, the community programme and the enterprise allowance scheme. The response by employers and young people to the youth training scheme has been particularly heartening; 40,000 young people joined the scheme, which was close to the commission's planning target last autumn.
