HC Deb 16 May 1984 vol 60 cc203-4W
Dr. Godman

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if it is his intention to introduce similar legislation for England and Wales to that contained in the Inshore Fishing (Scotland) Bill [Lords].

Mr. MacGregor

No. Enabling provisions already exist under which orders may be made by Ministers to regulate inshore fishing around the coasts of England and Wales and the Sea Fisheries Regulation Act 1966 provides for local sea fisheries committees to make byelaws applicable to waters within 3 miles of the coast. With regard to the provisions in the Bill in respect of salmon, these are not necessary in the case of the salmon fisheries off England and Wales, particularly in view of the existing byelaw-making powers of water authorities.
