HC Deb 15 May 1984 vol 60 cc102-3W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the major areas of difference which emerged at the recent EEC ministerial meeting in Fiji to discuss the renewal of the Lome convention; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Raison

ACP and Community Ministers made good progress at the Fiji meeting towards agreement on a number of important points. Some issues remain to be resolved, notably on trade, where the ACP demanded concessions in regard to access to the Community for ACP products which went further than some of our partners were willing to go. We recognise the importance of trade to the sustained development of the ACP, and we shall continue to press our partners to agree to improvements in the trade regime.
