Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many of the students currently attending courses at institutions of higher education in the United Kingdom are Libyan nationals.

Mr. Brooke

250 Libyan nationals studied at universities in Great Britain during the academic year 1982–83, the latest year for which information is available. The available information in respect of public sector higher education in Great Britain relates only to those domiciled in Libya. In 1982–83, there were 224 such students.
