HC Deb 15 May 1984 vol 60 c128W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to amend the rate ceiling for discretionary local government grants from the present figure to £250.

Sir George Young

There has been no general rating revaluation since the current rateable value limits defining eligibility for home improvement grants were set. There is thus no case for a revision of the existing limits. However, as part of the current review of private sector housing improvement policy, we are considering whether the present arrangements can be replaced by a system which will be more cost-effective in securing that grants go where they are most needed.
