§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Prime Minister if she will invite the views of Commonwealth countries on the main subjects to be discussed at the economic summit meeting in June.
§ The Prime MinisterI am already aware of the views of Commonwealth countries on international economic 91W issues from the detailed discussions at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting last November. I would, of course, welcome any further views which Commonwealth leaders may wish to make known to us in advance of the summit.
§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Prime Minister what are the main subjects for discussion at the economic summit meeting in June; and if it is intended to discuss debt problems of the Third world.
§ The Prime MinisterThe main subjects for discussion at the London economic summit will be developments in the world economy, how to consolidate recovery and spread its benefits without provoking a resurgence of inflation, the rollback of protectionism and the problems of debtor countries. I expect the summit to look at these problems in both the immediate and medium-term perspectives.
§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Prime Minister if the economic summit in June will be considering ways to improve financial flows from developed to developing countries.
§ The Prime MinisterAs I have said in a separate answer to the hon. Member today, I expect the summit to discuss the problems faced by developing countries, particularly those of debtor countries. Maintaining adequate flows of resources to non-industrialised countries, and helping them to make the necessary economic changes, will be important elements in resolving those problems.
