§ Mr. BrookeThe Medical Research Council brain metabolism unit is on three sites in Edinburgh. In the financial years 1982–83 and 1983–84 the expenditure on this unit by the MRC has totalled £777,789 and £1,005,768 respectively. I understand that the MRC has found it necessary to impose selective reductions in the budgets for consumable laboratory supplies on all its units in 1984–85, and that the final level of this element of the brain metabolism unit's total budget has yet to be settled.
