HC Deb 15 May 1984 vol 60 cc154-5W
Mr. Maclean

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the number of animals ritually slaughtered in the last year for which figures are available; and what percentage of these slaughterings was for export.

Mrs. Fenner

My Department does not maintain statistics relating to animals or poultry slaughtered by religious methods. According to information available, however, annual slaughterings by such methods include about 83,700 cattle, 745,000 sheep, 6,700 goats and 3,094,000 poultry. It is not possible to identify exports according to the method of slaughter.
