HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 c29W
13. Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he proposes to discuss with the chairman of British Gas, when they next meet, the phased introduction of substitute natural gas from coal into the gas supply system, with a view to extending the supply expectancy of natural gas from the North Sea.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

My regular discussions with the chairman of the British Gas Corporation relate to a variety of matters concerning the industry. The timing of the introduction of substitute natural gas will depend on its future competitiveness in the market.
