asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the total volume of oil which has now been extracted from United Kingdom offshore fields; and what proportion this represents of the total known offshore reserves.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

As at 31 March 1984, about 602 million tonnes of crude oil and natural gas liquids had been produced from offshore United Kingdom fields. This represents 31 per cent. of the proven plus probable reserves in offshore-discoveries.
