HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 c40W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will describe the structure and administration of the local authority race relations information exchange; to whom this body will be accountable and in what manner; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

The local authority race relations information exchange will be based at the Policy Studies Institute and operated by two staff specially employed for that purpose by the institute. It will provide a national clearing house to promote a better interchange of information and experience on race relations matters among local authorities. It is being funded for a two-year period from September 1984 jointly by local government—through the Local Government Training Board—the Department of the Environment, the Home Office and the Commission for Racial Equality. It is intended that it should be answerable to a steering committee with members from the funding bodies.
